A Family for ME

There are currently over 1,900 children in the foster care program in Maine, and in some regions, the number of family foster homes is shrinking. Spurwink, along with the Maine Child and Family Services Department, needed help to recruit and qualify new foster parents to address this pressing need.

We created a behavior change campaign designed to help potential foster parents understand that they share many of the same fears as the foster children, addressing the stigma and barriers head on. It was crucial for potential fosters to be able to see themselves as a hero with the potential to dramatically change a child’s story.

There is also a special need for foster parents who can provide care to babies and young children while supporting the work of reunification with their birth families, for those able to welcome sibling groups of three or more children, and fostering for older youth - so all campaign materials created reflected these 3 segments.
